As most of us know, today’s food supply is not ideal. Many of our foods are genetically modified and laden with pesticides. On top of that, pollutants fill our air. Heavy metals get stored in our bodies.
Detoxing on a cleanse, is a great way to defend your body from some of today’s harmful impacts.
Truly, a cleanse is a great idea for the physical body. You’ll lose weight, gain energy, boost your immunity, detox, the list goes on. Since we now recognize the bodily benefits of cleansing, we often forget about the other benefits. The reasons why people 1000s of years ago cleansed or fasted.
Our mind and body exist in a continuum. They cannot be separated. When we cleanse our bodies, we also cleanse our mind.
For example, when the Shamans fasted, they did not fast to eliminate build-up of heavy metals in their body or to look good in a bikini. Instead, they fasted for a vision, an insight/an opening. Religions have long maintained that fasting is good for the soul. History’s great spiritual leaders fasted for mental and spiritual clarity, including Jesus, Buddha, and Mohammed. Not matter your own personal spiritual beliefs, one cannot deny that cleansing is good for the mind.
We live in a very fast-paced world where we are almost constantly in some state of distraction. Our phones are with us at all times. We have the ability to check our email, social media, and the world news with one simple touch. Our sympathetic nervous system is almost always in a state of heightened arousal. The stress and anxiety of modern life actually weakens our health in variety of ways.
When I decide to do a cleanse, I cleanse to not only amplify and rejuvenate my physical health, but also, to gain some peace, rest, and insight on my life.
I plan my cleanse in advance, so that I have space in my calendar during that time. During a cleanse, I want to have more time for rest and reflection. Instead of my typical ‘to-dos’, I make time for self-care: baths, sauna, yoga, meditation, reading, walks, gentle hikes in the mountains, or simply sitting in the sun. These sorts of mindfulness practices have been shown to reduce cortisol, supporting our innate detoxification and boosting overall health. But as we cleanse, and let go of physical toxins, we also create space mentally and spiritually for new potential. Perhaps, that vision the Shamans sought. Perhaps, more clarity in one’s life. Perhaps, simply for a chance to take a deep breath and say, ‘ahhhh’, to life.
If you decide you’d like to do a cleanse, in my opinion, it is ESSENTIAL that you choose a time to cleanse when you will not be under a lot of stress. The ideal time is one where you have created the space to breathe and relax. Again, this state of relaxation supports you both physically and mentally in the natural process of letting go.
When I cleanse, I usually do Purium’s 10-Day Transformation that includes 3 organic green drinks/day & still allows you to eat vegetables & fruit. For more information, & my code that saves you $50, you can read more here. (bold this text & make a clickable link to the link below)
