‘An effective human being is a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.’
~ Ida Rolf
Rolfing Structural Integration is a unique form of bodywork that systematically works to realign, readjust, reorganize and balance the body in gravity to its most efficient form. I do this by manipulation of the fascia (connective tissue) and reeducation with the client and their body awareness.
Rolfing is a form of holistic bodywork that, through a process of several sessions, allows the body to come back to its natural alignment. If you are experiencing physical pain or with issues such as limited range-of-motion, low back pain, shoulder pain, sciatica, scoliosis, poor posture, migraines, and more Rolfing can be of support to you.
Rolfing enables the body to regain its natural, organized, form-restoring freedom of movement, revitalizing energy, and leaving you feeling more comfortable, relaxed and pain free!
Rolfing is different from most forms of bodywork because it focuses on improving the organization of the entire structure (often visible as better posture), rather than focusing on a place that hurts, feels stiff, etc. Although massage is relaxing, you may find the same area bothering you again shortly after you leave the office. This is because the area that hurts is often a compensatory or secondary issue. For example, you may have neck pain because you’re not getting the proper support from your feet, or because your pelvis is askew, or because your shoulders are rounding forward (or all of these). Until we balance the entire structure, that neck is going to stay strained trying to keep your head upright. Focusing where it hurts goes after the symptom, not the problem.
One of my favorite ways of working with my Rolfing clients is through the Rolfing 10-Series . Generally, clients who go through this process with me, are drawn to my work as they feel disconnected from their body, ‘out of whack’, and simply not aligned. Usually they will have a few aches or discomforts that are specific to them, but their intention for receiving Rolfing is not to ‘chase pain symptoms’, but instead, to allow their body to come back into natural alignment and deepen their own connection to their body.
I also work with clients outside of the context of the 10-Series. The ways I work with my clients varies but can be a few focused sessions to help my clients get out of pain, some clients choose to come every 4-6 weeks on a more consistent tune-up maintenance, & others come when they can with the desire to feel even better in their body. I work with my clients individually to develop a plan of care that best supports you.
