Last May I featured my chiropractor & friend, Dr. Elyssa Wright, for my Interview Series with Women Leaders.
For the last 2 years, I have been receiving regular chiropractic care. I am new to the world of chiropractic. This is the first time in my life to receive regular adjustments, in the past, I’ve had a couple adjustments from a few different chiropractors simply to learn more about the work, but have never had consistent care.
Well, 2 years in, and I am a firm believer & huge fan. My first major noticing was in my second month of care. A friend of mine was training for a half marathon. At the time, I wasn’t working out too much and hadn’t been running. I decided to join my friend for a 7 mile fun, thinking I would run half of it with her & that would be a push for me. To my surprise & delight, I ended up running the entire 7 miles with her and felt more or less ok. I believe the reason I was able to do this long of a run without working up to it is because my body was moving more efficiently from my chiropractic adjustments.
Watch the interview with Dr. Elyssa to learn more and her philosophy and approach to working with her patients.
In the interview she shares a GREAT tip on how to sit upright with greater ease & naturally aligned posture. Here are the bullets from Dr. Elyssa’s tip:
- Make sure you have both of your feet flat on the floor.
- Think about growing tall, lifting up, from your pelvic floor up through your spine.
- Have no idea what your pelvic floor is? Let’s back up a step.
- Can you feel the two bones in your bum contacting the chair? These are your sits bones, the two hard places that when you wiggle yourself back-and-forth while sitting you can feel. Right in the center of those sits bones, is more or less, the center of your pelvic floor.
- Find balance between your sits bones, and then think of a string pulling straight up from that space between your sits bones all the way through to the top of your head.
- Allow your shoulders to melt down your back.
Notice, how does it feel to sit in this way? The more you remind yourself to practice these cues, the easier and more natural it will become and the more body awareness you will gain. Play with it multiple times throughout the day.
If you’re curious to check out Dr. Elyssa’s work, she is offering any new patients that come through me, 50% Off your first session. Her intention is for you to feel safe and in charge of your body and the care for your body, not to sell you on a standard patient plan.
