1. Challenge Yourself to Learn a New Physical Activity
A great way to begin to build more courage and confidence is through learning a new physical activity. An activity that makes you feel a bit nervous/uneasy/uncomfortable. For example, learning to tango, climb, or ski. Or maybe it’s just getting back out there, being visible, and walking everyday. Whatever activity you choose, make sure, even though it’s challenging, it still seems fun.
2. Find a Friend or Local Group of Beginners
Learning is so much more fun with others. Find a friend who’d also like to learn to climb or tango. You can also find a community group in your area that offers classes for beginners. You will gain support and community. It also helps make it easier to ask questions and begin to be comfortable “not knowing” when you are with other beginners.
3. Make a Commitment
Making a commitment is important for increasing your courage because it will make sure you stick to this new activity and stay consistent. It will also help you track your progress to see how far you’ve come along. And hey, we all know how easy it is to decide to try something new, feel like an idiot doing it, then abandon all effort and give up. Create a Goal.

c. What level of expertise would you like to achieve?
d. Share your goal with your friend or group.
4. Watch Your Thoughts
In general, we tend to dwell on the negative, especially in situations where we are pushed outside our comfort zone. Our thoughts tend to become our reality. And often, we only remember the negative. As you are learning your newfound fun activity, have compassion for yourself and keep the following in mind: Is this feeling logical?
That’s not true. It’s not gonna kill you. I got this.All is well. I will get through this. This is temporary. Take a step back and breathe.
5. Reflect and Celebrate
Honor Yourself for Each Milestone you achieve towards your goal. Reward yourself with some extra pats on the back or self-care each time you go out and do that activity.
